Marlborough Area Plan (MAP)
The Marlborough Area Development Trust (MADT) was commissioned by the Marlborough Area Board to review and update the Marlborough Area Community Plan.
Community Planning is about discovering the concerns of the community and preparing a plan based on their needs and aspirations. The aim is to improve the quality of life for all who live in, work in or visit the Marlborough Area.
The Marlborough Area is not only the town itself but extends to include many of the surrounding villages as indicated in the schematic to the right and shown in more detail here.
The aim of a Community Plan is to identify the needs of the community as a whole from the ground up.
Marlborough Area Development Trust (MADT) was commissioned to produce this Plan for the Marlborough Community Area, sourcing information on the future social, economic and environmental aspirations and needs of the 18,000 people who live in the 19 Parishes of our Community Area.
The Community Plan is about prioritising the concerns of the community and meeting their aspirations in a sustainable way. It does not set out to provide solutions to all the issues - it’s purpose is to raise the profile of those of deepest concern in our area, to focus attention on areas that really matter and to inform the decision making process at Local Authority level. In the shadow of the new Localism Agenda, the timing has never been more right for local communities to loudly engage with local authorities. The Plan provides the platform to enable this engagement.
The final version of the Plan has now been completed and it has been handed over to the Marlborough Area Board.
This final version of the Plan is an important and accurate statement about the principal needs and aspirations of the Community Area. It follows extensive consultation, drafting and re-drafting.
- The overall exercise has taken over 15 months.
- The consultation period went through 3 phases lasting nearly 12 months - there has been a longer period of time available in the Marlborough Area than any other in Wiltshire.
- As part of the process MADT ran 5 consultation road shows in villages - Parish Clerks and Parish Council Chairs were personally written to on at least two separate occasions and invited to the local meetings.
- In addition the consultation process was extended to include the MAB JSA event held on 27th March 2012 to allow another opportunity to receive contributions.
