Free Community WiFi: Fair Use Policy

This Fair Use Policy is designed to ensure that all users of the Marlborough Area Development Trust Community WiFi System, that allows WiFi access to the Internet free-of charge at various premises in the Marlborough Area, experience satisfactory performance at all times.

Why do we have a Fair Use Policy?

The Community WiFi System is only designed for occasional use when you are away from your normal home/business systems. The System has not been designed for high volume and/or intensive usage such as large uploads/downloads and this type of usage must be avoided until you can access your own or another private system. Our Fair Use Policy manages inappropriate use and makes sure the System can be used fairly by everyone.

How does the Fair Use Policy work?

If you regularly use the System inappropriately, and we believe this is unfairly affecting other users we may withdraw your access without notice, and you could also be barred from future use.

How do I know if the Fair Use Policy affects me?

Our Fair Use Policy applies to all users of the Community WiFi System but it will only affect you if you make inappropriate use of the System. If you do not use peer-to-peer file sharing or other inappropriate software and you are not, for example, constantly downloading or uploading videos or very large files, you are unlikely to be affected by our Fair Use Policy.

What else do I need to bear in mind?

All Community WiFi users must comply with all applicable  national and international laws and regulations (including without limitation those governing export control, consumer protection, copyright, unfair competition, anti-discrimination or false advertising). You must: (1) comply with all English laws, rules and other regulations applicable in connection with the use of the WiFi system; (2) not use the System for illegal purposes; (3) not interfere or disrupt networks connected to the System; (4) not use the System to infringe any third party's copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret or other proprietary rights or rights of publicity or privacy; and (5) not transmit through the System any unlawful, harassing, libelous, abusive, threatening, harmful, vulgar, obscene or otherwise objectionable material of any kind or nature. You will also not attempt to gain unauthorised access to any associated computer systems and you will not interfere or tamper with any administrative login and password that is maintained by the Marlborough Area Development Trust for the configuration and management of your use of the System.

Thank you for your co-operation
