Community WiFi News - March 2016www.marlborougharea.org/Community+WiFi The Free Community WiFi project was first started in 2011 and has been steadily expanded over the last 5 years to provide coverage in Marlborough Town centre, Avebury and other villages in the Marlborough area. The project is a significant collaborative effort from a wide range of local organisations and this newletter has all the latest news about its progress and availability. Smart Town initiative - the original design of the Community WiFi was for ‘casual use’ i.e. allowing users to catch up with their email and to do some ‘light’ web browsing when in a coffee shop etc. But we are now working to increase its coverage and reliability as the first stage of an ambitious aim to make Marlborough a 'Smart Town'. What does this mean? Why not find out more by downloading our discussion paper from here. Even more coverage in Marlborough High Street - as part of our Smart Town initiative we have now further increased the coverage in the centre of Marlborough to a total of 37 access points so that the Community WiFi is available from The Green through to St Peters. A detailed on-line map showing where all the access points are located can be seen here.
WiFi coverage increased in Avebury - thanks to the continued support of the National Trust, we have recently added three more access points to the Avebury WiFi network at the Barn, Manor and Post Office, bringing the total to 10. Coverage in this iconic tourist area is therefore now better than ever - see all the detail on an on-line map here.
If the Community WiFi is not available at your favourite pub, coffee shop or restaurant in the Marlborough area, why not ask them to contact us at wifi@marlborougharea.org - right now we will be able to install an access point completely free of charge.
Please forward this newsletter to anyone you know that might be interested in how we are developing the Community WiFi - its easy for anyone to subscribe by just clicking the link below. Thanks The WiFi team
